These converters are a cost-effective alternative to expensive E3/T3-to-Ethernet router interfaces, achieving maximal bandwidth utilization of the E3/T3 link, without the heavy overhead associated with ATM technology. The RIC-E3/ETH and RIC-T3/ETH provide built-in bridging and VLAN support at Ethernet/Fast Ethernet rates, enabling virtual connections of remote LANs (e.g., campus applications).

The Ethernet interface module performs frame filtering and forwarding at the Fast Ethernet maximum theoretical rate of 150,000 frames per second without adding delays.

The RIC-E3/ETH and RIC-T3/ETH forward Ethernet/IP traffic over SDH/SONET networks at full E3/T3 speed. These converters can be configured by the user to enable or prevent broadcasting and IP multicasting to the WAN as required, increasing network efficiency.

The RIC-E3/ETH and RIC-T3/ETH can be used to connect high-volume routers over E3/T3 links to Internet service providers (ISPs). Using these interface converters, the carrier can connect to the router’s low-cost 10/100BaseT port, rather than using an expensive E3 interface of the router.

The converters support auto-negotiation, which allows plug-and-play Ethernet connectivity without any additional configuration.
