Question or Comments

Interface Converter Application

Enables the connection of a DTE to a DCE with different interfaces. The interface converter performs all the physical and electrical conversions between the two interfaces.

Modem Eliminator Application

Eliminates the need for two synchronous modems and enables direct connection of two DTEs which have similar or different interfaces. The UCI provides clocks and performs control signal handshaking, emulating modem operation to the two DTEs.

Elastic Buffer

Enables the connection of two independently clocked DCEs. The UCI provides bidirectional buffering of data, preventing loss of data that would otherwise occur due to the difference in clock phases.

The two DCEs can have similar or different interfaces.

The UCI operates at data rates up to 2.048 Mbps using an external clock, or up to 512 kbps with an internal clock. A special model, UCI/HS, supports data rates up to 2.048 Mbps using the internal or external clock.

The UCI’s two interfaces are provided via fieldreplaceable modules. Each interface module (except G.703) features a DTE/DCE selection switch. This enhances the universality of the UCI, allowing operation in various applications without requiring a cross cable.

The available interface modules are V.24/RS-232, V.35, V.36/RS-449, X.21, G.703 codirectional (64 kbps), G.703 at 1.544 Mbps (unframed) and G.703 at 2.048 Mbps (unframed). Interface modules can be mixed, allowing any combination of interfaces.

The G.703 1.544 Mbps and 2.048 Mbps interfaces provide ITU G.703 line interface for unframed T1/E1 applications along with line driver, jitter attenuation and clock recovery functions. Interfaces comply with AT&T 62411 (1990 version) Jitter/Synchronizer (Stratum 4, Type II) requirements. Modulation techniques supported are unframed B8ZS, HDB3 and AMI. Transmitter return loss is rated at 14 dB.
